Question:
Are insurance companies reimbursing the cost of the machine or trainings? After a certain age, would the treatment would be less effective?
Answer:
The insurance reimbursement for both TES and the new EMG triggered Stimulation seems to vary widely. One factor is the type of plan. Another is using the correct code. Both of these units should be considered a form or Neuromuscular Stimulation under code E0745 for the prevention or treatment of disuse muscle atrophy. The EMG+STIM unit may also claim use for motor learning. The TES protocol has been used up to late 70’s in age, by people with post polio syndrome. The EMG-STIM unit was first used in people with stroke. The child has a better potential for change, but modern neuroscience gives a lot of support to the concept that it is never too late to make changes that will affect the quality of life.
