Question about Reading & Writing  (email a question)
Q: Our son was diagnosed at birth. His surgeon is Dr. Nath in Houston, TX and he has had Mod Quad surgery at 2yrs. and Triangle Tilt surgery at 6 yrs. old. We have been doing ROM therapy along with prescribed Occupational Therapy his entire life. I am interested in a 'complete' overlook of his prognosis in terms of his muscle development and equally his learning capabilities. He has shown signs of delayed reading and writing in 1st grade. Currently being tutored. I am very interested in your feedback.

Response OBPI is an injury that can be associated with learning difficulties. IF the teacher notes delayed reading and writing skills, a full assessment is a good idea for the school age child. If your system does not have a remedial program in place, go to http://www.brainconnection.com, then the Marketplace, and read about Fast Forward. They have trained people all over the States and have a locator mechanism to find someone close to you. I highly recommend this program to improve reading skills. It is based on current neuroscience, not outdated teaching programs that do not work for all children.
